FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about inverters answered by our experts.

Why do I need an inverter?

Solar panels produce direct current (DC) electricity, but your home appliances run on alternating current (AC). An inverter converts the DC electricity generated by your solar panels into usable AC electricity for your home. Without an inverter, your solar panels cannot power your household appliances.

What is the difference between a string inverter and a micro-inverter?

A string inverter connects all your solar panels in a series (string) and converts the electricity centrally. If one panel is shaded or underperforming, it can affect the entire string. A micro-inverter is installed on each individual panel, allowing each panel to operate independently. This means shading on one panel won't affect the others, resulting in better overall system performance, especially on roofs with partial shading or multiple orientations.

Is there a government rebate on inverters?

Inverters are typically included as part of a complete solar system installation, which is eligible for government rebates. The Victorian Government Solar Homes Program and the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) both apply to complete solar installations including the inverter.
